Joining the WordPress Photos Team through the WPCredits program has been a great opportunity to explore open-source collaboration and contribute to a community that helps people around the world create and share content.
When I first read the team handbook, I realized that contributing photographs involves more than simply uploading images. There are guidelines to follow to ensure that photos meet the community’s standards and can be useful to WordPress users. Reading the documentation helped me understand the team’s expectations and gave me a clearer idea of how to approach my project.
My first contribution was the beginning of my project, Landscapes: The Beauty of Nature and Cities of the World. My goal is to contribute 30 landscape photographs featuring different places around the world. I wanted to choose a project that combines visual creativity with a practical purpose: giving bloggers and website creators access to free images they can use in their content.
My first impressions of the team have been positive. I appreciate how documentation helps contributors understand the process and how shared guidelines allow people with different backgrounds to work toward the same goal. Being part of an open-source community also means learning from others, asking questions when necessary, and being open to feedback.
As a Systems Engineering student at Universidad Fidélitas in Costa Rica, I’m interested in experiences that allow me to learn outside the classroom and apply my interests in new ways. This project is helping me understand how even small contributions can become part of something much bigger.
I’m still at the beginning of this journey, but I’m excited to keep learning, improve my contributions, and see how my photographs can help people create better experiences on their websites. I’m looking forward to discovering more about the WordPress community and becoming a more active contributor over time.
